After looking for interesting new media ads to be studied, I came across one that took my interest after watching it. It was a banner advertising MetLife’s (which is an insurance company), “I Can Do This Campaign”. The ad, created by Crispin Porter + Bogusky, features Schroeder, the Peanuts character, at his piano. A headline asks, "Help Schroeder with his big performance." To do so, you have to touch your computer keyboard (any keys will do) at roughly the speed he plays — not too fast, not too slow. A meter shows you how fast you're going. The banner shown ran on The New York Times’ homepage during February 2012. The campaign is built around the premise that, when faced with a seemingly daunting task, all you have to do is take the first step and you'll see there's nothing standing in your way. I found the ad to be visually stimulating as they used animated characters and put them in the real world, making them stand out from the background. The music notes that appear as Schroeder plays the piano contributes to this point also. The fact that the banner was interactive, accompanied by music was what made me got all the way till the end of the ad to see what would happened If I did.

If I found a website with such this mesmerizing and innovative banner ad, I'll definitely stop by and see where are they bringing me to. In this revolution era, the proliferation of new media grabs the headlines and attract more audience than just a regular ad. Thus, I strongly believe that this banner ad represents the idea of "a New Media" perfectly. It is persistently engaging, fresh, and has a good message and genius philosophy behind it. Well findings Alif !

After watching the video that you post, I was really impressed and went straight to that website and gave it a go. This is really a new and superbly creative way for a new type of media ads. The outcome that I felt after trying it was really good and I had a lot of fun, which I think most people would feel the same way. Usually on the Internet, we encounter things like some interactive “cheap” games such as; shoot the chicken, or throw the basket etc that I think is really outdated in this year of 2014. This ad from MetLife is really interesting, engaging and also relates with the campaign that they are trying to promote which is “I can do this”. It’s so dazzling how technology can bring new things nowadays, even on media ads. I’m truly fascinated. Good Job Alif for finding this Ad. 11/5/2014 10:43:13 am
This is an interesting ad! At the begining of the ad, the tagline pops out and it makes audiences willing wait to know "how to help Schroeder". It is very good in drawing attention from the audiences. Besides that, the bonus point for this ad is definitely because it is interactive. Interesting ad!

Firstly i gotta ask you, why you never give me the link? In the first place i look at this ad, i already know that is going to be fun and cute. Before the game began, it shows up the words click to play. Which make me feel i am really in this game. Just follow the instruction and the game will follow your lead, this is really cool. This make me remember metlife even though i never really know what is it about. The game is too cool, i just have to clap. Leave a Reply. |
